A MEMORIAL
PROCLAIMING JANUARY 29, 2025 AS "NEW MEXICO FOOD AND FARMS DAY" IN THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES IN CELEBRATION OF COMMUNITY FOOD AND FARM INITIATIVES TOWARD ENDING HUNGER AND STRENGTHENING THE STATEWIDE FOOD SYSTEM.
WHEREAS, New Mexico food and farms day celebrates the efforts of individuals, youth, communities, organizations and agencies in creating a thriving local food, farming and ranching economy while emphasizing that everyone in New Mexico should have access to fresh, local, healthy and nutritious food; and
WHEREAS, New Mexico food and farms day celebrates the following 2025 award recipients:
A. the good food for New Mexico award, celebrating New Mexico farmers' markets: Silver City farmers' market;
B. the sowing change award, for organizations engaged in creating sustainable food systems: the student success and wellness bureau of the public education department;
C. the heart of the land award, for outstanding leadership in farming or ranching: Bryce Townsend, Black Mesa farm;
D. the growing the future award, for new or young farmers and ranchers: Casey Holland, Chispas farm;
E. the living land award, for outstanding leadership in land stewardship: Melanie Kirby, Zia Queenbees farm and field institute; and
F. the New Mexico golden chile award, honoring all schools, senior centers and early childhood programs that purchase New Mexico-grown and -raised products from farms and ranches;
NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF NEW MEXICO that January 29, 2025 be proclaimed "New Mexico Food and Farms Day" in the house of representatives in celebration of community food and farm initiatives toward ending hunger and strengthening the statewide food system; and
BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED that copies of this memorial be transmitted to the board chair of farm to table and the governing committee chair of the New Mexico food and agriculture policy council.
